Instruction/Classroom Management
Classroom Management Philosophy
In a teaching environment it is vital that students are engaged not only within the lessons but the teacher actively engaging them to participate. With engagement being priority students will more likely participate in the lessons rather than just completely ignoring or staring into space. If the teacher shows enthusiasm for a lesson then the students will follow suit, whereas if a teacher is not engaged in their own lesson then why would a student want to be engaged. From the beginning of the school year I plan to set my expectations with my students and explain the examples we have to set for others. According to my teacher mentor it took about six weeks for the students to understand what was expected from the students. I took heed as he explained after the six weeks the classroom management was near perfected. As I saw when I entered the class all students were respectful to each other and me, which was not the case in other classrooms. Within my students and their parents I plan to be transparent about who I am or what I expect from my students. What I don’t want is for my parents to feel that I have unrealistic expectations of their children but know that I will push them because I know they could do more. One thing I plan to do in my classroom is having a copy mom rotation instead of one at all times so parents are able to feel as if they are welcome in the classroom and not intruding. Building a relationship with students is important but it is equally important to build a relationship with parents so they can trust you have their child’s best interest at heart.
